Vasavi Mahal
Vasavi Mahal is one of the larger convention centres in Trichy. It consists of halls of various sizes and is used mainly as a venue for large-scale weddings and other celebrations.
The site is located close to the city centre and well connected by public transport. It was the site of the old convention centre under the same name. The old building was small and without the most modern facilities required for modern convention centres. It was decided to demolish and rebuild a new complex with halls of varying sizes and sufficient rooms that can be rented out for multi-day events.
"The building has three entrances that ensure that the different functions can be used independent of each other if required."
The client committee wished to retain the general layout of rooms from the old building – a large hall followed by a dining hall separated by a passage. The new building consists of 2 halls – the main hall and a smaller mini hall – and a dining hall. The top floors contain individual rooms that can also be rented out independently, therefore, bringing in additional income to the trust that manages this complex. All these different functions are arranged around a central skylit passageway.
